"Analyzing Kuiertyd": Why e.tv's Kelders Van Geheime And Annekan Die Swa Kry Have Simultaneous Broadcasts On eExtra?

Recommended

During the week, eMedia Investments unveiled their first local Afrikaans soap, Kelders Van Geheime. After SABC had shuttered 7de Laan back in 2023 and moved further Afrikaans content to SABC 3, eMedia had continued to bolster the entertainment.

Initially being reduced to merely dubbed content from Turkey, eMedia Investments expanded the lineup to include local productions Ouma Sarie and Die Fakulteit. Both of which currently have exclusive runs on eExtra serving a minority of e.tv's viewers.

As some readers aware, Annekan Die Swa Kry is currently being transmitted on both e.tv and eExtra in the same timeslot. Kelders Van Geheime was also anticipated to follow the same route with eExtra doing weekly repeats on Saturday nights.

From what was understood about eMedia's decision to get Kelders Van Geheime at 18:00 on eExtra. It was to give consumers on the channel time to view this new soap without it getting in the way of Elif which now comes on 30 minutes later.

But Annekan Die Swa Kry's inclusion still remains very much a mystery to date.

From what we've hypothesized is that eMedia Investments is positioning eExtra as their go to destination for Afrikaans content like KykNET. Getting Annekan Die Swa Kry and Kelders Van Geheime was probably an alignment on eExtra and with e.tv exposure.

Reducing the Guilty Pleasures a name given to the non-Kuiertyd stuff was probably a means to reduce their focus in that area. Not that consumers weren't watching Naagin or Rebel Princess but similar to Judge Judy on e.tv exist as overflows.

When a channel doesn't have much content on their plate they either reduce their duration or increase the airtime for their content. Overflow is what you consider Kuiertyd's daily repeats on e.tv or Eternal Love or Naagin on eExtra - additional content.

You just don't prioritize these areas you would find new episodes and rebroadcasts of Naagin in the same timeslot. Then you have Kuiertyd's primetime block on eExtra where a current TV program is phased out for another with repeats loaded on ePleiser.

How To Watch eExtra's Kuiertyd In English?

Recommended

Kuiertyd launched in 2018 and has since then become the most valuable member of eMedia's colony and a worthy advisory for M-Net's kykNET with shows like Soete Wraak, Elif, Impak and Gebroke Harte and Dokter Ali alongside a dedicated movie block.

For 5 years which is exactly how long Kuiertyd has been around, eExtra hasn't aired a Turkish drama in English I mean the last show was Matter Of Respect since then only reruns to the said show can be viewed on the channel with further content folded under Kuiertyd.

Last year, eMedia Investments acquired Sisterhood and this was the first Turkish series within that period to not form part of Kuiertyd alongside Yalanci (Liar) and Tainted Love (Leke). To make a long story short, one of the three were phased out - no replacement.

We could only assume that they want to put more emphasis on Kuiertyd even if that means keeping shows like Yalanci (Liar) and Tainted Love (Leke) away from eExtra and reducing the remaining shows that have not fallen victim to Kuiertyd (e.g. Fatmagul).

In general, eExtra is the only brand to serve such content from a wider spectrum but it doesn't mean that they're the only option. Sure the other two options come baring fruits but one of them (StarSat) supply the already viewed content in English.

Timeless Dizi Channel is a general entertainment channel owned by SPI International (a subsidiary of Canal+. It's currently one of the most popular brands in the division serving Turkish shows such as The Red Scarf, Karadayi, The End and Black Money Love.

Three years ago, StarSat added the channel on their platform. Unlike the latter MultiChoice, Timeless Dizi Channel operates on the platform full-time with eExtra and kykNET shows including Kind Van Die Noodlot, Stiletto Vendetta, Bittersoet and Vöelvry.

Timeless Dizi Channel is available on the Max (R299p/m) and Super (R230p/m) package on channel 141.

Daai Crazy Somer Returns For Second Season In The Coming Weeks

Recommended

Daai Crazy Somer (Son Yaz) is a Turkish drama series that rolled out earlier in the year on e.tv. The series is owned by FOX home to various shows currently viewed on eMedia's platforms including Doodsondes, Om Elke Draai, Dokter Ali and #DisComplicated.

Currently seen weekdays at 17:30 on e.tv, the first season draws to a close on 21 April with a shorter second season expected to follow immediately after from April 24.

Summary to season 2

Selim continues his life alone in Rize. He lives away from his children, reality, and everything, and does not even speak properly with Yagmur and Altay, who live in Istanbul. Selim's retreat will be interrupted by a surprise visitor. Akgün, on the other hand, is on the run. But every escape has an end. And that end is very close for Akgün. Akgün will enter into a great bargain for his father's life and this bargain will change Akgün's life forever.

The series stars Alperen Duymaz as Akgun Gokalp Taskin, Ali Atay as Prosecutor Selim Kara, Funda Eryigit as Canan Kara, Hafsanur Sancaktutan as Yagmur Kara, Birce Akalay as Sare Akay, Sinan Tuzcu as Metin Yaman and Sebnem Donmez as Serap Gok.

In other developments, Die Put is expected to return in the coming month to eExtra alongside a brand new series Om Elke Draai and the highly anticipated, Roekeloos Dade.

First Glimpse Into The New Character Expected On Daai Crazy Somer Season 2

Recommended

Famous actor Olgun Toker managed to impress a large audience with the character of Burak Ersoylu in the series “Arıza” in the winter season. The actor portrayed a psychopathic character so well that the viewers of the series could even believe that he really was that person.

One of the names who left in the first season of the Daai Crazy Somer (Son Yaz) was Olgun Toker, who gave life to the character of Gökhan Şen…Toker showed a strong character acting in Son Yaz with his villain character, just like in the Arıza. Gokhan, who confronted Akgün, acted by Alperen Duymaz, and gave him great difficulties, spread evil…

In the second season of the Daai Crazy Somer, another character is coming, who will shake the story again. The name that will give life to this character has also emerged. Onur Bay, who has played the role of Tekin in the TV series Arka Sokaklar since the age of 9, became the new transfer of the series.

Onur Bay left Arka Sokaklar in June to play new roles. Everyone was surprised when it turned out that the actor’s new series was also Son Yaz.

It has been revealed that Onur Bay will come to the story with a character who will face and compete with Akgün, brought to life by Alperen Duymaz in the new season.

Gökhan was a bad guy and Akgün was very worn out. However, the new character will be a much more challenging person and will stand against Akgün. Onur Bay and Alperen Duymaz scenes will also be talked about a lot in the new season.

Emmanuelle: A Look Into One Of The Wildest And Bizzare Shows From e.tv

Recommended

Emmanuelle is a late night show that was beamed onto eMedia Investments' only TV channel at the time e.tv. For those who were familiar with the Emmanuelle, the series despite being a bit inappropriate for daytime audiences explored one's inner fantasies.

Before it was pulled from the channel, Emmanuelle managed to attract a million audiences which is huge considering the timeslot it was allocated being 10pm. I don't why I thought of doing this maybe because I was too a victim at some point which I honestly doubt.

Since Dark Side Of The Ring, I've been used to reading up on stuff and diving down into their early life which is the case for Emmanuelle but I'll try my best to not bore anyone and only include the important bits. I mean I did read through the whole thing and these parts made a lot more sense.

Character history

Emmanuelle appeared as the pen name of Marayat Rollet-Andriane, a French-Thai actress born in the 1930s in Bangkok . Her 1957 book The Joys of a Woman detailed the sexual exploits of Emmanuelle, the "bored housewife" of a French diplomat. Rollet-Andriane's book caused a sensation in France and was banned.

The producer of another Arsan/Rollet-Andriane film Laure, Ovidio Assonitis, claimed that all books published under the pen name Emmanuelle Arsan were written by her husband Louis-Jacques Rollet-Andriane, rather than by Marayat.

Films

The first Emmanuelle film was the 1974 French theatrical feature Emmanuelle starring Dutch actress Sylvia Kristel became a success with a viewing audience estimated at 300 million. It remains one of France's most successful films, and played in the Arc de Triomphe theatre for over eleven years.

Several sequels starring Kristel followed, beginning with Emmanuelle 2 known as Emmanuelle: The Joys of a Woman in its U.S. release, and also Emmanuelle l’antivierge in some European press materials, including the soundtrack LP and CD.

A number of unofficial productions in Italy, Japan and the United States cashed in on the Emmanuelle craze. Among the best known were Italian "Black Emanuelle" films starring Laura Gemser , who became the second most popular actress to play Emanuelle in the 1970s.

After the last official Emmanuelle theatrical feature film, Emmanuelle au 7ème ciel (the seventh film for which Kristel returns as the main character), ASP began to produce further films, all featuring the character of Emmanuelle, albeit played by a series of actresses. These included a science fiction series in the 1990s called Emmanuelle in Space starring American actress Krista Allen in one of her first roles.

Why Impact Wrestling Is No Longer On Your Screens Or At Least Not With Openview?

Recommended

WWE was ripped off from viewer's screens several years ago and found its way onto SuperSport. At the time, eMedia Investments wasn't quick to source a replacement and relied solely on the existing international offering to fill the gap left by the wrestling brand.

It wasn't long till there was an announcement eMedia Investments acquired broadcasting rights to Impact Wrestling. The rights which was formerly held by SuperSport so in a way they kind of did a switcheroo kind of like that time with Lotto and Powerball.

Now if we have to go over Impacts time on e.tv here's how to summarise it, the show didn't form part of the monthly TAMS as seen with WWE in the past and the audience in question weren't as welcoming of Impact as they were with WWE which kind of spells trouble.

As seen overseas, Impact Wrestling is no longer in the big leagues as existing competitors such as AEW and WWE. Most of its reason for living has to do with its history as TNA! Impact.

And I don't want to speculate but could it be possible that SuperSport severed ties with this wrestling promotion as viewers weren't so welcoming of it as the years went by. This trait quickly began to adapt following it's move to e.tv.

Impact Wrestling has been facing several challenges during its time on e.tv as rival brands like the SABC often broadcast soccer in the middle of wrestling and you know how much the sport is loved point made this wasn't much of an issue with WWE.

As for the removal on e.tv, all I can say is eReality will continue to offer Impact Wrestling alongside it's extended library but as for the state of the wrestling promotion. Is it possible that the same outcome awaits consumers on the Openview platform?

The History Of Former NBC Soap Passions Once Seen On e.tv

Recommended

Passions debuted in 1999 with major fanfare. Creator Reilly had been credited for a large surge in the ratings for Days of our Lives years before, thanks to innovative storylines like that of heroine Dr. Marlena Evans being possessed by Satan that drew new viewers, but also tended to alienate stalwart fans. With Passions, Reilly was able to start with a blank slate and no pre-existing fan base to please.

In the early days of the show, Passions heroine Sheridan Crane is identified as a close friend of Diana, Princess of Wales; soon Sheridan recalls speaking to Diana on the phone immediately prior to the 1997 car accident which took the Princess' life. Sheridan also has a similar accident in the same Paris tunnel, and speaks to a "guardian Angel Diana" who urges her to fight to survive, which drew considerable controversy. Sheridan later adopts the name Diana after a boating accident that results in amnesia.

The opening days of the show also introduced the Theresa/Ethan/Gwen love triangle that persisted as an ongoing main storyline to the very last episode of the series.

For much of the first three to four years of the series, supernatural elements such as witches, warlocks, and closet doors leading to Hell were major plot points, many surrounding the machinations of the centuries-old witch Tabitha Lenox and her doll-brought-to-life sidekick, Timmy — named by Entertainment Weekly as one of their "17 Great Soap Supercouples" in 2008. In 2001, HarperEntertainment released Hidden Passions , a tie-in novelization presented as Tabitha's diary, exposing the secrets and pasts of the town's residents. Passions featured a storyline involving Tabitha and Timmy promoting the book, which reached #4 on the real-life New York Times Best Seller list and garnered the series two alternative covers of TV Guide in July 2001.

In 2003, Passions submitted a trained orangutan named BamBam, who had been portraying the recurring role of Precious, for a Daytime Emmy Award. Precious was the non-speaking live-in nurse and caregiver for elderly Edna Wallace, and held an unrequited love for Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald, which was depicted in elaborate fantasy sequences. In early 2004, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which administers the awards, disallowed the entry with the following statement:

Our ruling is based on the belief that the Academy must draw a line of distinction between animal characters that aren't capable of speaking parts and human actors whose personal interpretation in character portrayal creates nuance and audience engagement that uniquely qualifies those performers for consideration of television's highest honor.

In summer 2005, the prominent character Simone Russell came out as homosexual; Passions made daytime history by being the first serial to show two women — Simone and love interest Rae Thomas — in bed making love. In 2007, it was revealed that longtime hero Chad Harris-Crane was cheating on his wife with another man. This was also a daytime first, with the men portrayed in bed together. Passions also broke new ground in 2007 with its portrayal of Vincent as an intersexual who becomes pregnant with his own father's son.

Nearly seven years after the debut of Passions on July 5, 1999, the NBC-owned Sci Fi Channel began airing the series from its first episode starting February 13, 2006; the reruns had originally been announced to begin on February 6. Due to low ratings, the reruns were taken off the air as of May 25, 2006. On August 15, 2006, Passions became the first daytime drama to make full episodes available for download and purchase from the online music store iTunes. On November 6, 2006, the show also became the first daytime drama to make full episodes available for free viewing via streaming on NBC.com.

Though plagued since its inception by low overall Nielsen ratings, Passions was historically top-rated in key demographics. The series was not renewed by NBC for a full ninth season in 2007 because of its low ratings coupled with the network's decision to extend its morning news and talk show Today to a fourth hour. Since NBC owned the series entirely, NBC began shopping for other networks, especially cable networks to pick up the series for a ninth season, however there was no luck in other networks willing to pick up the series because of devastating low ratings and extreme expensive production costs. In April 2007, Satellite provider DirecTV bought exclusive rights from NBC to continue airing Passions, with most principal cast members staying on. As the series was coming to an end on NBC, Passions Live talk show hosted by Eric Martsolf premiered in August 2007 every Thursday night on DirecTV's The 101 giving fans the chance to call the show and interact live with Passions cast members, making Passions the first and only soap opera to ever have live talk show in U.S. history. The Passions Live talk show continued to air every Thursday night after moving to DirecTV until October 2007. The live show was also streaming live on the Official Passions Site at NBC.com. The series ended its NBC run on September 7, 2007, and new episodes began airing on DirecTV's original-programming channel The 101 on September 17, 2007, making Passions both the first soap opera broadcast on a direct broadcast satellite service and the first series to make such a transition from broadcast television. The series ran Monday to Thursday at 2 pm ET/11 am PT, with repeats airing later in the day and on weekends. Although NBC.com continued to cover the series' official website with updating features, video clips of each episode aired, updating news, and products relating to Passions, including all of the full videos of Passions Live show once the series left NBC and had moved to DirecTV, initially new episodes were no longer available for free viewing on the Passions official website at NBC.com or for purchase at iTunes.com since NBC's broadcasting decisions were entirely sold to DirecTV and the NBC.com Passions site promoted a DirecTV link letting fans know that Passions was no longer airing on NBC and was only available on DirecTV. On September 27, 2007, DirecTV announced they would provide an All Access Pass to Passions to view all new episodes on the Official Passions Site at NBC.com for a monthly fee. This service began on October 1, 2007 for $19.99 a month then reduced to $14.99 a month when Passions' schedule was cut from four episodes a week to three episodes a week. After the series moved to DirecTV, the subscription service added a special feature where a trivia question relating to Passions would pop up on each episode airing on The 101 for viewers to use their remote control to answer. Passions is first and only soap opera to ever have this type of feature.

On December 10, 2007, Variety magazine and various cast members confirmed that DirecTV had decided not to renew Passions for another year, but ordered 52 additional episodes to be taped through March 2008. New episodes of the series were broadcast until August 7, 2008, with DirecTV airing three new episodes per week starting January 2008. Universal Media Studios wrapped up production of Passions on March 28, 2008. The cast and crew were told at the wrap party that efforts to find a new outlet had failed and that the cancellation was final. Cast member McKenzie Westmore confirmed the news. Though Passions had been the highest-rated original program on DirecTV's The 101, it was reported that the network had failed to meet the projected number of new subscribers they had hoped to attract with the series.

Review: e.tv On Becoming An Open Window To Kuiertyd

Recommended

Since the introduction of eExtra's Kuiertyd, e.tv has lent the block part of its schedule to air reruns of various telenovelas accompanied by the 17:30 slot which serves up new content to compliment the existing offering on the channel.

Earlier in the year, Rewind was scrapped or at least that's what they want everyone to believe as they rolled out a standalone Kuiertyd channel known as ePlesier which serves an additional outlet for repeats instead of helping to reduce the flow on e.tv.

Turkish programming is popular in South Africa I get it as kykNET too is joining on the antics but why put it up on 3 channels if you know 1 has mostly new than rebroadcast on top of that it's on eVOD as well. I mean wouldn't it be better to have it on less channels.

I mean repeats can be irritating especially if a broadcaster doesn't give viewers an opportunity to reminisce about a particular show and rush for its return. I do feel that e.tv should reduce the amount of Kuiertyd slots available in an attempt to get more consumers on the Openview platform.

ePlesier can be a waste I mean it's multitasking between two timelines and it doesn't have to be if only e.tv could cutback on amount of Kuiertyd during the week instead of duplicating the format seen with Mzansi Magic's channels.

Unlike DStv, Openview consumers aren't divided as it's singular or at least until Openview+ launches later in 2023 only then can pigs fly.

As of right now, I do feel perhaps merging the 8:30 slot with the 10:30 wouldn't be a bad idea as Kuiertyd is very much successful and the reduction would be another way to get more consumers latched onto the Openview platform as opposed to waiting on the bulk of content.

But if this is format is making them income who am I to oppose the choices a broadcaster makes. Cable is becoming obsolete and this is one of the few examples. Honestly, I'm more safer watching anything eExtra can dish out these days as opposed to zombify a schedule.

'Days Of Our Lives': Could The Sand In The Hourglass Be Heading To A New Era In South Africa?

Recommended

NBC’s long-running soap opera Days of Our Lives will be leaving broadcast television after 57 years to stream exclusively on Peacock, the network announced on Wednesday. The change means that fans who previously have been able to watch the show for free on broadcast will now have to pay for a streaming service to learn what happens next in the show’s fictional town of Salem.

“With a large percentage of the Days of Our Lives audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show’s loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers,” Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said in a press release.

Earlier in the year, Days Of Our Lives was swept out of e.tv's primetime offering as eMedia tries to boost their original offering with eMedia Investments expected to invest R100 million in their streaming endeavours which has seen success as the company was able to obtain half a million registrations and record breaking ratings.

Of course, Days Of Our Lives' absence still haunts a lot of consumers as they've been following the soap for half a century when it began on the free-to-air SABC 3 channel which was known at the time as CCV channel and after the SABC's controversial COO at the time Hlaudi Motsoeneng put up a ban for international series forcing the drama to air close to midnight.

As seen earlier in the year, the sand in the hourglass for e.tv has come to an end after almost 5 years of broadcast which has some feeling agitated over an outlet to this ongoing soap opera.

Peacock overseas decided to move Days away from cable as the ratings have been slipping on a year to year basis as direct-to-consumer becomes a top priority for international brands like The Walt Disney Company.

Before this news came into affect, Vodacom's defunct streaming service supplied Bold And The Beautiful another ongoing soap opera and rival to Days Of Our Lives after it was swept out of SABC's lineup due to the corrupt bold man thereafter MultiChoice's DStv as AMC International opt to not supply EVA channel which was the home of Bold on cable.

As it is a lot of long format or in other terms old timers like The Simpsons moved from cable to streaming for consumers in South Africa as The Walt Disney Company retracted the FOX channel as they plan to become a digital exclusive platform like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Now Days Of Our Lives being a digital exclusive doesn't seem far fetched and on Peacock although not available in the region as yet wouldn't be far fetched a stretch as well seeing as Days Of Our Lives: Beyond Salem which is a spinoff to be the soap can be viewed on the platform.

Peacock on top of being a streaming service is owned by NBCUniversal the same people that own Days Of Our Lives and now the chances of it suffering the franchise getting swept on this platform is close to zero but questions amount to how this service will eventually rollout in South Africa

As it is, Peacock is just another Showmax holds a lot of third party content, limited original content and is not knowledgeable by a lot of consumers as seen with Netflix and Disney+. In some regions, the platform was able to fold under Paramount+ which is expected in Africa by early next year but that doesn't guarantee it will supply Peacock.

Peacock is a very complicated case as outlined there's not much to offer on the table that you would dump a hamburger for a salad while others found comfort on Paramount+ (also known to some as SkyShowcase). Others got it as standalone as seen overseas while others found comfort in a local provider to which I nominate Showmax.

Say what you want about their owners MultiChoice but NBCUniversal has a tight relationship to the company as they supply the only alternative to M-Net on the DStv platform as others were retracted due to content or management changes. On top of that, the movie offering on Studio Universal can come in handy when you're avoiding cartoons.

10PM Will Never Be The Same Again As The Professionals Returns To e.tv

Recommended

It's been 3 months since e.tv's viewers got much international shows from the channel as the brand boosts their local portfolio with the likes of The Black Door and Isono leaving 10pm as the only source for such content but as seen in the past months the quality has dropped.

I mean they've got decent programs in that slot at the moment L.A's Finest and The Blacklist but no one seems to care that much about them not even the channel as the content airs back to back and you're used to seeing fold one sheet over another but that's not the case.

Questions have risen over the fate of 10pm slot as there hasn't much variety in a while and after 6 months we finally got some confirmation from the channel.

Apparently, the 2020 action series Professionals which was the last international series at 8:30pm in April before local dramas took over will replace L.A's Finest from 11 July.

Through a briefing, eMedia had mentioned that they've scrapped shows like S.W.A.T., New Amsterdam and Seal Team. Is it possible that some of this content will just resurface on a limited basis or could the channel be seeking more short form series for the 10pm timeslot.

The Count Of Monte Cristo: The Story That Inspired eMedia's Is'phindiselo, Telemundo's The Boss And ABC's Revenge

Recommended

Edmond Dantès, a handsome, promising young sailor, skillfully docks the three-masted French ship, the Pharaon, in Marseilles after its captain died en route home. As a reward, Dantès is promised a captainship, but before he can claim his new post and be married to his fiancée, Mercédès', a conspiracy of four jealous and unsavory men arrange for him to be seized and secretly imprisoned in solitary confinement in the infamous Chateau d'If, a prison from which no one has ever escaped. The four men responsible are:

1. Fernand Mondego, who is jealous of Mercédès' love for Dantès;

2. Danglars, the purser of the Pharaon, who covets Dantès' promised captainship;

3. Caderousse, an unprincipled neighbor; and

4. Villefort, a prosecutor who knows that Dantès is carrying a letter addressed to Villefort's father; the old man is a Bonapartist who would probably be imprisoned by the present royalist regime were it not for his son's, Villefort's, influence. Villefort fears, however, that this letter might damage his own position, and so he makes sure, he thinks, that no one ever hears about either Dantès or the letter again.

For many years, Dantès barely exists in his tiny, isolated cell; he almost loses his mind and his will to live until one day he hears a fellow prisoner burrowing nearby. He too begins digging, and soon he meets an old Abbé who knows the whereabouts of an immense fortune, one that used to belong to an immensely wealthy Italian family.

Dantès and the Abbé continue digging for several years, and from the Abbé, Dantès learns history, literature, science, and languages, but when at last they are almost free, the Abbé dies. Dantès hides his body, then sews himself in the Abbé's burial sack. The guards arrive, carry the sack outside, and heave the body far out to sea.

Dantès manages to escape and is picked up by a shipful of smugglers, whom he joins until he can locate the island where the treasure is hidden. When he finally discovers it, he is staggered by the immensity of its wealth. And when he emerges into society again, he is the very rich and very handsome Count of Monte Cristo.

Monte Cristo has two goals — to reward those who were kind to him and his aging father, and to punish those responsible for his imprisonment. For the latter, he plans slow and painful punishment. To have spent fourteen years barely subsisting in a dungeon demands cruel and prolonged punishment.

As Monte Cristo, Dantès ingeniously manages to be introduced to the cream of Parisian society, among whom he goes unrecognized. But Monte Cristo, in contrast, recognizes all of his enemies — all now wealthy and influential men.

Fernand has married Mercédès and is now known as Count de Morcerf. Monte Cristo releases information to the press that proves that Morcerf is a traitor, and Morcerf is ruined socially. Then Monte Cristo destroys Morcerf's relationship with his family, whom he adores. When they leave him, he is so distraught that he shoots himself.

To revenge himself on Danglars, who loves money more than anything else, Monte Cristo ruins him financially.

To revenge himself on Caderousse, Monte Cristo easily traps Caderousse because of his insatiable greed, then watches as one of Caderousse's cohorts murders him.

To revenge himself on Villefort, Monte Cristo slowly reveals to Villefort that he knows about a love affair that Villefort had long ago with the present Madame Danglars. He also reveals to him, by hints, that he knows about an illegitimate child whom he fathered, a child whom Villefort believed that he buried alive. The child lived, however, and is now engaged to Danglars' daughter, who is the illegitimate young man's half-sister.

Ironically, Villefort's wife proves to be even more villainous than her husband, for she poisons the parents of Villefort's first wife; then she believes that she has successfully poisoned her husband's daughter by his first marriage. With those people dead, her own son is in line for an enormous inheritance. Villefort, however, discovers his wife's plottings and threatens her, and so she poisons herself and their son. At this point, Dantès is half-fearful that his revenge has been too thorough, but because he is able to unite two young people who are very much in love and unite them on the Isle of Monte Cristo, he sails away, happy and satisfied, never to be seen again.

Why eMedia Investments Stopped Distributing Turkish Dramas In English?

Recommended

Kuiertyd was introduced in October 2018 on eExtra offering a mix of reality, lifestyle and drama series from kykNET as well as some Turkish dramas which was the reason for the Afrikaans block's success.

The first dubbed Turkish show Gebroke Harte (Paramparca) pulled almost half a million viewers following its debut on eExtra. From what I remember these dramas didn't get this much attention when they were available in English.

So pretty much eMedia Investments is the reason Afrikaans folks are giving dubbed programming a chance. From what I remembered most would either 7de Laan or binge watch Devious Maids or Game Of Thrones.

Besides distributing international content, eMedia Investments has catalogue of original programming ranging from Imbewu, Rhythm City and Scandal.

If you look at these dramas none of them are in Afrikaans so dubbing these Turkish dramas is sort of their way of making up for the times wasted and eMedia doesn't have any of its own Afrikaans reality shows so they borrowed from kykNET.

Why go after Turkish? Character I presume they wanted individuals Afrikaans folks can idolize and relate to, second being these shows are time consumers with all the plot twists and lastly accessibility as not a lot of platforms harper these type of shows.

e.tv had tried getting local content onto other channels back in 2013 all of which were black based before it didn't work out so eExtra is targeting an audience SABC 2 has been very distant with.

It looks like eExtra and possibly eMedia will invest more time in Kuiertyd soaps than Telemundo and Azteca soaps as their streaming service seemingly has these shows absent perhaps due to international content rights so maybe it will be obtainable later.
